THIS MONTH IN DANA POINT: May and June
As we leave spring and head into summer, the activities pick up in Dana Point. During the month of May, beginning on the 1st and running through the 31st, is the "Just For The Halibut " derby. This tournament is sponsored by Western Outdoor News and Dana Point. This derby allows anglers of all ages and skills to participate on their own terms, fishing from a party boat, private boat, kayak or from shore. The 12th Annual Doheny Blues Festival returns again and is sponsored by Omega Events. The weekend of May 16th and 17th will be fired up with headliners like B.B. King and Brian Setzer and The Nashvillains, there are 26 performances in all on 3 stages. A can't miss for you Blues/music fans.
For the boating enthusiast we have the 9th Annual Dana Point Boat Show opening May 28th through the 31st. This boat show located in the harbor and will have boats for viewing in and out of the water, as well as vendors for financing, insuring and supplies.
Fridays in June starts "Movies In The Park" a free venue of movies played at Lantern Bay Park above the harbor, in front of the Marriott. Movies begin at 8:00 pm. Bring blanket or chair.
June 28th starts the "Summer Concert Series" at Heritage Park above the harbor, at Old Golden Lantern. The first concert scheduled is Steel Parade-Caribbean/Calypso. The concert begins at 4:30 pm. Bring blanket or chair.
Head South just a few miles to San Clemente on the first Sunday of the month, to attend the Village Art Fair located on Del Mar Ave. starting at 9:00 am. The "Spanish Village by the Sea" hosts a wonderful fair with an interesting spectrum of arts and crafts - jewelry, ceramic, wood, metals, photography, fine art, hand blown & fused glass, handmade children’s clothing, home and garden items, and more!
Dana Point has a Certified Farmers Market every Saturday from 9:00 to 1:00. Second Saturday of the month includes arts and crafts.
